This is part two of a series on the prophetic. You can read part one here.
When a prophet gives us a message, it’s the Holy Spirit on the inside of us who can tell us whether or not it’s an accurate word from God.
Prophets have their part to play in the Body of Christ, but it’s a limited role in that they can’t live your life for you. Once the message is delivered, you then need clarity and wisdom to know how to act upon the word. Nobody else can make your life decisions for you; a prophet may be good at prophesying, but they can’t manage your marriage or pay your bills.
The power of the prophetic only makes sense in the context of personal responsibility.
Paul speaks of every member of the Body having importance. Each one plays its role and each one is limited in that role. The prophetic gifting is a powerful gift to the Body of Christ, but like any gifting it has its limitations.
My goal in sharing today isn’t to devalue the role of a prophet, rather, it’s to empower the everyday New Covenant believer. My hope is for us all to recognize that we were created to hear the voice of God and to live out our sonship as we’re led by the Spirit.
I’m grateful for every gift in the Body of Christ including the prophetic. I never want to despise prophecy and always want to be thankful for how God has used, is using, and will continue to use prophets. But Christ did not say in John 10:27 that “My prophets hear my voice,” He said, “My sheep hear my voice.”
Perhaps today you don't feel that you’re a giant in the faith and that you can't relate to prophets or apostles. Maybe you feel like a simple, everyday, ordinary sheep.
If that’s the case, I have good news for you: we have access to the written Word of God (the Bible) and we have access to the author of the Bible (the Holy Spirit who lives inside of us).
He loves to speak to His sheep, so I bless you today to know that you were made to hear the voice of God.
